Project Title: Inductor Characterization Instrument

Project Description:

This project will build a microcontroller based instrument that applies a voltage step to an inductor under test and measure the inductor current and voltage using dual high speed analogue to digital converters (ADC). The resulting data will be used to calculate the inductor parameters including Inductance, DC resistance, and Saturation current level. Good practical analogue, digital and power electronics contruction, test and debug skills and excellent embedded microcontroller programming.

Project Title: Power Semiconductor Thermal Characterization System

Project Description:

This project will build a microcontroller based instrument that allows thermal characterization of power transistors.   The unit will apply a controllable level of power to a device under test until a predetermined on die temperature is achieved. The unit should be used to test selected powerdevices with different heat sinks and thermal management solutions.

The project requires good analogue, digital and power electronics construction skills and some knowledge of thermal physics would be helpful.

Project Title: EVSE unit with reserve and access control

Project Description:

This project will build a microcontroller based Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) unit that will allow Electric Vehicle (EV) users to reserve usage of the unit online.   The project requires good analogue, digital and power electronics construction skills and interest in Internet Of Things (IOT), using an embedded linux platform such as the raspberry PI or similar.
